After reading recent B&S spoilers which made me feel a little bit queasy (Luc becoming an underwear model) and shock horror, miss Rob Lowe (Kitty having another identity crisis and Balthazar Getty not appearing at all), the latest press release and premiere photos have made excited for the start of season 5.
I like that the family have been estranged for a little while- this was similar to in the pilot so hopefully we can see a spark of the old B&S back. I hope we get some flashbacks at some point to find out what happened during the year though.
Justin looks way cool with his shaved head, though admittedly I have no idea what he's doing in military uniform as last we heard he was off to Haiti to be a doctor. Kitty's son also looks mighty big for a 3 year old

2010 Season Reviews Part 1: Brothers and Sisters
Season Reviews
Brothers and Sisters: Season 4
This was mostly an underwhelming season for the show. Apart from Holly, all the characters have gone down in my estimation, mostly due to writing and producing problems behind the screens. Surprisingly Holly has actually become more likable, though perhaps that's relative since she was the worst character to start with.
Kitty's cancer storyline has been the highlight of the season. All the actors just nailed the storyline and it was heart-breakingly emotional. Unfortunately, the show decided to end the storyline abruptly with a miracle cure, which was just a little too easy and definitely lessened the impact of the story as a whole. I don't love the idea of Kitty in politics as she has always said she didn't want to go into politics itself and I definitely didn't love Robert giving up his job as it seemed wholly out of character for him. However with Rob Lowe leaving (and Robert dying) at the end of the season, Kitty will keep the Walker's in politics, something which is sorely needed as it is one of the main pillars on which this show is based.
The other pillar of course is the family business, Ojai. After the last 4 years of the business nearly going under, it finally has and I'm sad to see it go. To get there though, we had to go through Dennis York interfering and Ryan helping him (and then disappearing) and then Narrow Lake (which is a storyline very reminiscent of the season 1 storyline in which William owned some mysterious bit of land, but I guess the changing producing team don't remember). I am glad Tommy came to help them finish the storyline as it wouldn't have been the same without him.
Sarah sadly had the most irritating storyline of the season with Luc- the boring Frenchman who she claimed was the 'love of her life' after knowing him for just a couple of months. Through most of the season she sounded like some delusional teen and the others helped her in this encouraging her to marry him without too much thought for her children. Very weird storyline.
Kevin and Scotty have been the most stable couple this year and it was a joy to watch. They had a few issues of the baby making, but I liked that the storyline wasn't easy and that it took them till the end of the season to get pregnant. The one year jump means that sadly we'll miss seeing the birth, but I guess if that means we won;t have to see the irritating Roxy Olin again as their surrogate then I'm all for it.
Kevin's career took another turn for the worse as he found himself unemployed, which was a nice move as his political career was ridiculous as was his friendship with Robert.
Nora continued in over protective mother role, managing one relationship, which they sadly went down the younger man/goldigging route with. I was disappointed with this and really felt they missed an opportunity for Nora to have some fun and enjoyment in her life other than meddling with her children's lives.
Justin and Rebecca managed to argue their way through the season, though surprisingly they managed to both get married and make a baby during it as well. Again I'm disappointed that Justin's medical career faltered. I loved the idea of this storyline before the season began, but they really wrecked it, not because he struggled, but because he practically gave up at the end.
Next season...
As I said they are skipping a year in the B&S universe. Robert is dead and this will allow us to skip Kitty's grieving. Holly was critical in the car accident, but unless Patricia Wettig wants to leave, I'm guessing she'll be okay. Emily Van Camp is leaving so Rebecca and Justin will mostly likely split and he might've gone to Haiti in this as well. Saul has HIV, not sure about this storyline but they might handle it okay. Ryan is out for good, but Tommy will probably return for more episodes than this season. Sarah and Luc are apparently going to be more solid and Scotty and Kevin will have a baby. The season's episode has been cut to 18 so unless the show turns it around, this may be the show's last. On the basis of season 4, this may not be a bad thing.

Brothers and Sisters Cast Changes
Brothers and Sisters have made a few more cast changes after the recent and upcoming departure of Rob Lowe.
Firstly the character of Ryan Lafferty, the illegitamate half sibling, played by Luke Grimes has been dropped. Whilst this is hardly a surprise; he has appeared in very few episodes in season 4 since he has been made a regular, especially since the only storyline he had with Dennis York has dried up; I think its a bit of a shame. The writers made a big deal of writing in another sibling and basically ret-conned all of season 1 and 2 to do it. Then they made a lot of noise over the hiring of Grimes and bringing him, only to drop him come season 4. Honestly this feels like lazy writing to me, surely there's something they could've done with him, especially after he was welcomed back into the Walker fold after he donated his bone marrow to Kitty.
The second casting change is that they're promoting Giles Marini to season regular. Now at time of writing I have only seen the episodes where Luc has only just reappeared for his second set of episodes in season 4. However based on his first appearence, I'm not happy. Yes Giles Marini is gorgeous and thats clear to see. Unfortunately he lacks much acting talent, which is abundantly clear amongst the stelllar cast B&S have, and the character of Luc is dull as dishwater, rendering his good looks to that of an ornament. I honestly think Dave Annable has him beat in terms of looks on the show because you know, he actually has a personality. I'll hold back judgement for a few episodes, but honestly I'm not looking forward to season 5 of B&S much at this moment.

Flashforwarding?
Here's an interesting post that caught my eye recently:
http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/04/23/blind-item-time-jump/
Michael Ausiello suggests that a popular drama is considering a time jump into the future for next season. If you read down through the comments, there are a few main shows being suggested:
Grey Anatomy/Private Practice: whilst these two dramas could be in contention, as many commenters have pointed out, its unlikely due to the crossovers that the shows like to do. A time jump in either would make this impossible and since the crossovers are good for ratings I'm pretty sure that ABC wouldn't go down this route.
Brothers and Sisters: Giles Marini recently suggested that this may be where they are going, especially since Rob Lowe is leaving and Calista Flockhart is reducing her hours. He isn't the most reliable source obviously and its hard to say as I'm not at US pace, but a leap in time could be a good thing, to help B&S out of their current slump. Of course there's the problem with aging the cast- though Desperate Housewives didn't really bother with this- but its a much older cast so a huge leap wouldn't work that well.
Supernatural: this is an interesting one considering the upcoming apocalypse and the CW's decision to renew the show past the original 5 season plan. As Buffy and Angel have shown (Angel especially in the comics) dealing with the direct aftermath of an apocalypse is hard work for story writers, so perhaps a flashforward could skip this problem.
Then again there are many other shows this device could successfully work on. Any ideas?

Mini Reviews- April 14th
A very late mini reviews. Just a few episodes I've seen over the last few weeks.
Grey's Anatomy- 6x10/6x11 Holidaze/Blink
Two nice episodes. The first was a holiday themed episode. A little rushed in places and it was a bit disconcerting watching a Christmas episode at Easter but I enjoyed it. The story of Sloan's daughter could've been expanded a bit more, he didn't react at all when she told him she was pregnant. We got a bit more of it in the second episode with Addison telling Mark that he had turned into a doctor and him consequently breaking up with Lexie. Sad to see the couple break up but one of the young residents needs to be single otherwise it gets boring in a show like Grey's. Cristina's also having relationship problems. Unlike most people I like Teddy; she was harsh on Cristina in the second episode with the solo heart valve operation, but she was right, Cristina needs to be pushed and needed to make her own decisions, even if Teddy was being a bit vindictive.
Brothers and Sisters- 4x12/4x13 The Science Fair/Run Baby Run
The first was a silly but fun episode. I'm glad Nora stuck with her head regarding Simon, but I'm sad he turned out to be a rubbish love interest. Nice to see Sarah getting a love interest too, and I'm not sure about Justin being dyslexic, a bit of a cop out maybe.
The second unfortunately was marred with problems. There was some continuity issues with Kevin (one minute at the doctor's, then at a press conference, then back at the doctor's), Saul's storyline was basically a repeat of the end of season 2, without any explanation as to why he was feeling so listless, and worst of all; Robert bowed out of politics because of the hoopla of campaigning only to encourage Kitty to go for his same seat therefore he would have to do all the same campaigning, just as the spouse this time? Stupid and corny. I refuse that he could lose his ambition so quickly, and whilst I'm all for Kitty going into politics, going for Robert's old seat is just silly.
Otherwise it was a funny episode, with Scotty/Kevin and Michelle and I liked the Sarah/Roy stuff, such a shame he's not around for long.
Greek- 3x20 All Children... Grow Up
A very late review, but a great episode especially as it had to be a potential season/series finale. All the major plot points were tied up and some left for next chapter, also with a little fun in the sun on their spring break. Rebecca getting back together was a little hokey, but I'll buy it for now. The Casey/Cappie break up was sad but inevitable, though I'm sure they'll end up together at the end of the next and final chapter.
90210- 2x16 Clark Raving Mad
Funny episode, Naomi is such an idiot for declaring sexual harassment though she was right to not want Liam to know as he's such a hot head there's no telling what he will do. Not a fan of the Liam/Annie pairing they keep trying to push it. Silver and Teddy were a little frustrating in their testing of each other, glad it was resolved. It was nice to see Silver, Naomi and Adrianna have such positive and healthy attitudes about Adrianna's feelings for Gia. The Jasper storyline is getting a bit too The OC for me (they did a similar storyline in season 1) but I liked the cliffhanger ending.
Desperate Housewives- 6x12 If
A bit of a weird episode, not sure if I liked the fatalistic dream sequences. Unsurprisingly Lynette's was the best and saddest, Susan's was the worst and didn't really make sense. Also poor Karl, it ended up that no-one cared he was dead. Even Julie (his daughter!) only looked mildly upset.

Desperate Housewives- 6x09 Would I Think of Suicide
Not a bad episode and perhaps better than the last. Gabby/Carlos go to war with Lynette over her hiding her pregnancy. Since I like Carlos, I'm almost glad to see that it was Gabby holding his strings for most of the episode. Carlos had a right to be pissed but he was childish and I was on Lynette's side by the time he fired her.
Katherine's descent into crazy is a little tiresome now, especially since her Mike obsession is a little hard to understand (I mean he's no Nathan Fillion!). Her stabbing herself was very effective though.
Poor Danny Bolen or should I say Tyler? Its a hard on him that his dad got to Julie first, especially when it was obvious that Danny liked her. His suicide did mean we got some more details into the Bolens past, though I have to say I hope we don't get too many too soon as it that has spoiled many a mystery in DH.
Oh and I didn't buy Susan forgiving Bree so easily, Susan is very vindictive and likely to hold a grudge.
Note also was the dead waitress still of school age, Ana said she was friends with her, but the waitress seemed much older.
Brothers and Sisters- 4x11 A Bone to Pick
An endearing yet rushed episode. Ryan's treachery was revealed and no surprises but he was the only match for Kitty and he came through, despite the not very tactful way Nora asked/told him. Kitty's scenes were very sad especially with Evan; her recovery felt rushed though, its probably something that could've waited till the next episode. The side story of Kitty's affair with a famous Democrat was amusing and a bit silly but I liked the way in which in tied the story together and also gave us some sibling time. No comments on her adultery with a married man though, which is odd.
Greek- 3x19 The First Last
Its a shame that the show was only recently renewed as its obvious the show was fearing cancellation so tied up many loose ends in this episode before the characters go on Spring Break next week. The Blue Ribbon competition was nicely rounded off with ZBZ winning back their number one status, though I would've preferred to see another Green Week in the next chapter. Calvin and Grant inevitably broke up- there were hints of a possible Calvin and Heath reunion, which I would absolutely love! I was most excited by the KT's plans for revenge, can't wait for the finale now!

Mini Reviews- March 22nd
Brothers and Sisters- 4x10 Nearlyweds
A lovely episode, if a little disappointing in places. The disappointment I'm referring to is the Nora/Simon storyline. The very first mention of money made the upcoming storyline very clear. Its such a cliche to have him run away with the money- is that all the writers could think of really?! I hope the story turns out to different to whats seeming to be happening.
Otherwise I enjoyed the episode as it had a wonderful family vibe to it. Loved seeing Tommy, Elizabeth and Julia back, especially nice to see Elizabeth. I loved seeing the youngest Walkers altogether for the first time I think at the end. Justin's break down was much needed considering how much he has going on, but I'm glad he came through. The pair should've postponed the wedding though, they showed they were not ready to go through with it.
Grey's Anatomy- 6x09 New History
Sadly Izzie returned to be a bitch to Alex, but at least Alex got some closure and she left after again after this episode.
There was a new arrival in the form of Teddy whom I'm glad was able to show a few things to Cristina who was being a bit of a know it all. I really enjoyed the lunch scene with all the attendings as it was a lot of fun.
Richards drinking problems cam to a head here. Adele accusing Richard of having an affair, especially with Bailey was kinda funny, but obviously lay at the heart of a much bigger issue.
Greek- 3x18 Camp Buy Me Love
Nice 80's themed episode for the show. I love the Ashleigh/Rusty pairing they work so well together and I'm glad he chose Dana at the end of it. Also liked that they hinted at a potential romance for Katherine. Also Evan took back his manhood; good for him, even though he had to hit Rusty to do it.
Casey is being way to pushy with Cappie and his parents showed that. I liked the conclusion she came to at the end as many (most) college relationships break up around the time of graduation, but I'd be surprised if they don't make it through somehow.
Desperate Housewives- 6x08 The Coffee Cup
A bit meh for me. The Angie/Bree/Orson storyline was the best, if contrived. Glad Angie protected both Orson and Bree (who is her boss) and bought Bree some time to make her decision.
Shame to see Carlos turning such a douche over Lynette's preganancy. Then again I would be pissed off too and Lynette was silly to keep that secret from him for so long, especially since they were friends so he might've given her a break.
The shock ending was shock-less for me since the TV guide spoiled it, but I think its too obvious to be Nick, even for DH.

Flashback to the 80's- Brothers and Sisters
Had to post this link: SpoilerTV has promo pics from the 1980's segment of the upcoming Brothers and Sisters flashback episode.
I'm totally loving the 80's fashion, young Kitty and Sarah are sporting, plus how adorable is little Justin?!?
This is my favourite pic of them all (I'm pretty sure its all the young Walkers, the one in the cast might be another character judging by later photos, but I might be mistaken, it could be Tommy):
Apparently this two parter will reveal shocking secrets (?!) Not sure about that, but I;m excited about the flashbacks!

Mini Reviews- March 15th
Grey's Anatomy- 6x08 Invest In Love
Such a sad episode centring around children. I'm enjoying these special episodes personally and Arizona led this one brilliantly. I'm also liking the Mercy Westers starting to have crushes on the original doctors as its a great way to integrate them. Plus any episode where Alex has his shirt off is a good one!!
Desperate Housewives- 6x07 Careful the Things You Say
Not the best episode but it was okay. Bree and Angie bonding was good, but why is it always Bree bonding with the newbies? (eg Katherine in season 4) Enjoyed the fact and it was both Lynette and Tom defending Julie as Lynette can be a bit cack handed when she does these things herself. The flashbacks at the beginning explaining the Danny Julie affair were also much needed.
Brothers and Sisters- 6x09 Pregnant Pause
A very successful episode in terms of all characters getting a decent amount of screentime. Why can't more episodes be like this? Apart from Ryan, all the other characters had something useful and meaningful to contribute to the episode. Storyline wise I'm not a fan of the Rebecca pregnancy because it feels a little desperate to me. The way in which all the family found out before Justin was typically Walker like, but Rebecca really should have told Justin sooner. It feels like the writers are almost foreshadowing a break-up between the two, as neither are able to tell each other major events in their lives. Justin's major event- him still struggling in med school- is a brave story from the writers, it would be easier to have him succeed and focus on his romantic dramas. Also I liked that the alcohol issue rose its head again, its been forgotten for too long. Its nice to see Nora having some fun; shame her children have to spoil in, first Sarah and then Kevin. Does it really matter if he's not the greatest doctor? Holly's money troubles were less annoying and it was sweet to see her reaching out to Nora for grandmother advice as well as Nora giving Holly the money without interfering (much). The only storyline I feel like was a little bit shunted was the Kevin/Scotty sperm thing. Kevin is obviously annoyed, and they haven't sorted this issue out yet. It will probably rear its ugly head in the next episode. Also as a sidenote, I'm happy Scotty will be the bio father, especially as Kevin already has a biological child out there.
90210- 2x13 Rats and Heroes
Returns after a very long break and I'm pleased to see it. Its drama-ful as usual, but mostly dealing with the aftermath of the previous episode events. Poor Navid though getting caught with the drugs, hope he gets out of that one. Didn't like the blatant Windows 7 product placement- more subtle next time please!
Modern Family- 1x17 Truth Be Told
The perils of Facebook and Judy Greer make for a great episode. That love triangle bit was very funny as was Alex telling her brother Luke he was adopted but I don't feel we got any conclusion to either storyline. The Cameron/Mitchel storyline was less funny, and I don't buy that Mitchell's boss heard him. It will be fun to see Mitchell flounder a bit, but I hope he goes back to his job as none of the adults in the show seem to actually successfully hold jobs.
How I Met Your Mother- 4x21/22/23/24 The Three Days Rule/ Right Place Right Time/ As Fast As She Can/ The Leap
Still catching up with the show, but I wanted to say that the end of season 4 was some of the best episodes of the show I'd seen. They were a little odd considering Lily was missing and Robyn seemed to have less lines due to their respective pregnancies, but the writers and the three male actors did a great job writing around this and pulling off some very funny and 'mother revealing' episodes at the end of season 4.
The flashbacks at the beginning explaining the Danny Julie affair were also much needed.Brothers and Sisters- 6x09 Pregnant Pause
Greek- 3x15 Your Friends and Neighbours
Excellent episode, well constructed and once again the show is doing the perfect job of capturing the essence of college.
Take Casey and Ashleigh, I have lived that story with my best friend at uni. They were perhaps a little more confrontational than I was, but the story rings true. So many shows just focus on sexual relationships as those that change at/after uni but friendships do as well and its important to remember that.
After the hilarious hijinks at the KT, true words were spoken by 'T-Dog' telling Cappie that you can never go back and he is so right. Whether we like it or not, life moves forward and we have to accept that. For Cappie he looks like he is veering towards not graduating for a while and that's comforting to see he hasn't changed too much, but its also good to see that he realises that this may be problemsome in his relationship with Casey.
I was a little sad to see Evan be a jerk again, though its understandable why he did what he did. Calvin was right to be mad at him though as what Evan did was not okay. Very ingenious idea to get the money back though.
Grey's Anatomy- 6x07 Give Peace a Chance
Great episode. Its another special episode and it worked really well. Derek wasn't great at the narration, it felt a little repetitive and was used too often during the episode rather than just at the beginning and end, but otherwise it was enjoyable to see Derek's side of things. The patient in question was suitably charismatic and hopeful which pushed the episode along. The outcome of the surgery was a little too happy and well rounded but it worked within the episode.
It nice to see all the other attendings weighing in and helping out, rather than the residents, whom get a lot more screen time usually. Lexie and Cristina were hilarious with the nappy (diaper) thing as was Arizona breaking down after confronting the Chief.
There weren't many other plots in the episode which allowed all focus on this one amazing surgery but it was food to see one of the Mercy Westers being nice and trying to actually help Alex with his marriage.
Desperate Housewives- 6x06 Don't Walk on the Grass
A really good episode which seemed to be carefully plotted so that the housewives interacted whilst maintaining their own storylines. The show seems to be elongated stories which in past years might've been wrapped up in one episode eg Gabby and Juanita and this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Gabby's storyline, though it was played for laughs, really showed off her selfishness and maybe we'll see some change in her. Its good to see Tom stand up to Lynette for once for being hypocritical- both are lying and honestly I'm not sure which one is worse.
Bree debating her feelings for Karl was kind of endearing and oddly they make a good couple, but I don't think Karl will ever be able to change his ways completely.
Susan and Katherine's storyline was the worst one and is mostly just ridiculous. Katherine a bit crazy is somewhat funny, but her obsession over Mike is tiring (I don't really see it), though I get her need to take revenge on Susan.
Brothers and Sisters- 4x07 The Wine Festival
A good episode not very imaginatively titled. I thoroughly enjoyed Nora's storyline this week. Its perfectly realistic that this younger man would be interested in her, but also that she would be doubtful why. I like this motorcycle guy and the scenes at the festival were good.
Kitty and Robert had some short but sweet scene, where he sees her bald but I have to say Calista's bald cap was not very well done this week and was quite distracting.
Luc is gone, sadly not for good, but their issues are very real and I wish Sarah could pick less, shall we say, artistic men and maybe go out with someone as driven as her. Nora kept saying Luc is not Joe but honestly they pretty much seem like the same type of guy.
Kevin had the most adorable scene with Saul about picking their biological birth mother and it advanced his and Scotty's storyline forward. I have to say Scotty was right to be frustrated by the whole process.
The festival story felt hugely far-fetched, the wine was good and launched in a day?! Plus they were all drinking in the work day- no wonder the business is failing!. Ryan's treachery at the end was a little sad but also frustrating for the characters and audience. A little success for Ojai would've been nice.

Grey's Anatomy- 6x06 I Saw What I Saw
A great episode which shows that the show can excel without a couple of key cast members. The re-telling technique using different viewpoints (which weren't that different) is a fairly common one, but the show used it to its advantage and did it well. I picked up on April missing checking the throat when they first showed it, but honestly if it wasn't for the way in which they did the episode, it wouldn't have been as obvious. I was a little sad to see April fired over that mistake, it was a fatal one and she should've been punished, but we've seen doctors do worse on this show. However with the merger, it was an easy axing for the Chief and the board to make. I'm glad Derek called the Chief out on it though.
One thing I liked about this episode was the banter between the Mercy Westers, as a casual viewer I'm enjoying their addition to the show (though I have to ask where are the Mercy Wester attendings? There was Callie but she's the only one to make the transfer- its a little weird)
Dollhouse- 2x11/12 Getting Closer/Hollow Man
Two incredible episodes to send the main arc of this show off in style. The reveal of Boyd being the head of Rossum floored me as did the various deaths- Saunders killing Bennett, Mellie killing herself. Maybe I'm naive but I didn't see any of those shockers coming. There was so much to enjoy in the episodes, Echo was way less annoying here than she has been before, the flashbacks did a good job in explaining what Caroline had been up to and how she got into the Dollhouse and it was fun to watch the gang go to war with Rossum. Honestly, though I'm impressed with the way the writers wrote the episodes to explain the future episode (eg Boyd leaving Claire, whilst hurt was explained by him getting shot when he protected Adelle). It can't have always been easy to make it all fit together.
I am a little disappointed that Boyd was the head of Rossum. Of course as an emotional punch it made for excellent TV but its sad that he wasn't one of the good guys. I think there were a few clues though the season, but I'm not he was always going to be the evil creator.
Dollhouse- 2x13 Epitaph Two
I wish I had re-watched Epitaph One before watching this one as I must admit, I was a little confused on the timeline in places. Otherwise though it was such a good episode. We got to see what the main cast was up to in 2019 and also we got to see them save the world as well. Another review pointed out that this was slightly Hollywood as endings go, but I think the destruction that had taken place in the interim years meant that it wasn't exactly a happy ending (though Priya, Tony and T got a mostly happy ending).
It was an emotional ending though, I was shocked when Paul was dramatically killed and I shed a tear at Topher's sacrifice/death as well (poor Topher). It almost makes me laugh that it was mostly the girls left standing, whilst apart from Victor/Tony all the main male character died- very Joss Whedon! It would have been nice to get some answers as to where the main cast had been and what they had been doing in the last few years. We had some sense of that, but there was a lot left unanswered. Great to see Alpha, Bennett and the future cast back again and I have to give props to all the cast for doing a fantastic job both in this and the final few episodes. Overall though a great and fitting finale to the show.
Brothers and Sisters- 4x07 The Wig Party
I'm a bit annoyed by the stock description of this episode as it only referred to the last few minutes of episode, which spoiled the impact of the episode a little.
Firstly of course, there was Kitty losing her hair. An emotional moment at the fundraiser led to Kitty shaving off all her hair. The scenes were very heartfelt and I like that Kitty chose to do it with her mum and sister rather than her husband, as its obviously a very difficult and horrible thing to go through and it kinda makes sense that she wouldn't necessarily want her husband to be the first person to see her.
The second spoiled reveal was Rebecca's pregnancy, which in all honesty is a bit yawn, is there no other storyline for the pair? Justin constantly diagnosing Rebecca due to his studies at school was funny though and very true to life.
Elsewhere I was thrilled to see Scotty get a storyline separate of Kevin and the Walkers. The cheating dad thing is perhaps a little much in this show considering William's past, but the story had a sweet of predictable ending, and I liked Scotty's maturity in dealing with his father's infidelity and parents separation.
I also liked seeing Nora being pursued by a younger man. Nora in relationships is always good to watch, mostly because Sally Field carries it off so well, but especially this time round as it gives her a break from cancer and from being the overbearing mother that she is. Plus this new guy seems like a lot of fun!

Mini Reviews- February 22nd
Greek- 3x12 Pride and Punishment
This episode nicely wrapped up the fire and song fest storyline from last chapter even if the ending was a little cheesy and completely implausible. It was stupid of Casey to admit what happened but at least the story won't be hanging over the rest of the season.
Still the episode was a good one, I love the Rusty/Ashleigh pairing, bizarrely it works and we also got some nice genuine banter between Rusty and Dale, though I was expecting more fall out from Rusty getting the grant.
We also got to see the brilliant Rebecca/Cappie pairing, as they play girl/boyfriend swap. It was a silly but funny storyline and its sweet to see that Cappie still cares for Rebecca. Also hopefully this is the last of we've seen of the Amphora society, which was an annoying and silly storyline.
Greek- 3x13 Take Me Out
A much more enjoyable episode than the last and some classic Greek on Greek action to boot. I thoroughly enjoyed Casey and Cappie setting Ashleigh up with Beaver as it felt very true to life. Whilst they would make a horrible couple and I hope to see more of Ashleigh's hunky Omega Chi, it gave us some excellent and hilarious Beaver moments.
Rusty also had an enjoyable storyline learning to respect Grant whilst also growing into his role of pledge educator. Grant isn't a hugely likable character and Calvin could definitely do better, but their relationship is interesting for now.
Another enjoyable relationship is Rebecca and Evan. They're well matched with each other and Rebecca is refreshingly realistic against the fairytale, sickly sweetness of Casey and Cappie. Speaking of I'm thrilled Casey didn't throw the game for her boyfriend, winning made a much more emotionally satisfactory outcome to the game. Also I must say I'm enjoying the Gamma Psi girls as the Zeta Beta's enemies. I've always said the girls need an arch rival in the show and Frannie's house last season didn't quite work out. The Gamma Psi's make worthy adversaries.
Greek- 3x14 Tortoise and The Hair
An enjoyable episode. It was great to see Dale mixing with more of the Greeks becoming the ZBZ's new hasher and the sexual confusion with Ashleigh was very funny and quite plausible, considering Dale's high self-confidence. Liked seeing Rusty's blossoming romance (probably) with Dana, but it was silly of him to turn down the interview with Engineering Weekly (nice acronym joke there!) as his professor pointed out, these opportunities only come once or maybe twise in a lifetime.
Casey pursuing her political career felt a little false considering she has tired law and politics before and dismissed them so what is different now? The politics makes some sense, but I can't buy her doing her LSAT's; she could've easily chosen another post-grad course to do. Even though Cappie was a little cheesy, it was nice to see Casey and Cappie facing up to the future maturely, especially Casey in choosing her career first and foremost.
Desperate Housewives- 6x04 The God Why Don't You Love Me Blues
A decent episode, though like the last this felt a little rushed. Bree came across as overly harsh and self involved as she sacked Katherine for her obsession with Mike. Call me crazy also but I don't think Katherine believing Mike will come back to her is that crazy given Mike and Susan's history. The watching through the windows is admittedly going to far but Bree is sending Katherine down a dangerous path by sacking her.
The Lynette boob storyline was in part funny, I really liked her scenes with Tom, but with Carlos it felt sleazy and perhaps a little exaggerated (they weren't that big!). Would Carlos be so openly leery of his wife's friend?
Maybe his behaviour was done to make Gaby's in making Ana lie for her seem less bad. Whilst I'm thrilled that Gaby is committed to Carlos and sets both John and Ana straight, it was unfair of her to make Ana do that. Hopefully that's the last we'll see of John as his returned was not really welcomed.
Angie and Danny whilst being very mysterious have a twisted and yet quite sweet relationship, lets hope that whatever's happened in their past, their relationship stays that ways as its quite refreshing.
I enjoyed finding out what Julie has been doing for the last few years and that she is not the perfect daughter she once was, but Susan's shrillness was a little tiring. I already knew that Nick was Julie's ex lover, but it could be interesting to see how it plays out now that we know.
Eastenders- 25th Anniversary Live Episode
Its been a while since I've watched Eastenders (though I did watch the Christmas Day murder episode) but its 25th anniversary and a live ep was too hard to resist. It was actually a very good episode. Whilst I don't totally buy the surprise ending thing (I think more than a few people would have had to know about the killer considering all the following episodes have been filmed already) and the writing and acting was a little hammy, it was an enjoyable and very suitable episode for the momentous occasion. Dot and Ian watching the video of old Eastenders was a nice way to remember and commemorate the past 25th years and the Archie murder and Bradley's death was a great way to mark the occasion. The stunt was well done and who have to give props to the crew and cast for pulling off such a stunt live. There were a few slip ups, but in a way that good as it gives the show the live feeling.
The aftermath show on BBC 3 afterwards was suitably cheesy and its a shame that they didn't have more old cast members on the show and I did enjoy Larry Lamb being interviewed by son George as it was one of the funniest things of the night (apart from Bradley's death, which I rather morbidly found to be really quite funny!!)
Dollhouse- 2x09 The Attic
Wasn't sure about this episode when it started and some of the human brains acting as CPU's feels a little bit dubious to me, but all in all this was an excellent episode, mostly due to that killer reveal at the end. Adelle proven not to be a bitch was very satisfying and the events through the episode; Adelle talking to all key characters and Dollhouse employees, but us not seeing all of the conversations; are now explained and make perfect sense.
The living hells of the dolls were okay, but I would've liked to have seen more of Victor's and Sierra's. Clyde's living hell of the future was the most interesting as well as finding out key details of Rossum's inception. Really looking forward to the final episodes now.
Brothers and Sisters- 4x06 Zen and the Art of Mole Making
Ah, despite his annoyances, what joy it was to have Tommy back in the fold and the family complete. The whole episode had a lovely family feel to it, especially with Kitty and Nora at the beginning freaking out (like in the season 1 days when they lived together), the family conference call, and of course the explosive family dinner.
Storyline, the episode was less impressive, I liked that Kevin had doubt's and he and Scotty shared some sweet moments over their surrogacy woes, but I'm a little skeptical now that she's likely going to be their surrogate. Think Sarah had it right to begin with, even with Paige's blessing, allowing Luc to stay in her home and inviting him into her children's lives after knowing him for a couple of months feels a little irresponsible. The Holly/ Ryan storylines weren't that compelling, but I did like that Kitty counseled Tommy through whats effectively his mid life crisis. She's the best person to do it really considering they have a lot in common children wise. The ending was great though with Tommy going to patch up his family and Nora for once staying out of it.
Grey's Anatomy- 6x05 Invasion
The invasion of the Mercy Wester's. As a casual viewer, the injection of new blood is definitely a good thing as it keeps the show fresh. The Mercy West residents are a viciously competitive bunch and its kinda refreshing to see- surgery from what I understand is a competitive branch of medicine and the Seattle Gracer's should be more competitive sometimes. The format of giving each of the residents a rival resident to compete with worked perfectly and resulted in a few changed opinions. Poor Alex though with Izzie leaving him at the end. Though it was done for behind the scenes reasons, it works perfectly on screen and adds a sense of drama that even one of the core doctors could lose their jobs.
As a side storyline, Callie got some acceptance from her father. This was a sweet storyline, if a little saccharine. I thought Arizona was refreshingly mature, seeing things from Hector's point of view and encouraging Callie to patch up her relationship with him. Also the bible verbal contest was pretty funny.

Liked seeing Rusty's blossoming romance (probably) with Dana, but it was silly of him to turn down the interview with Engineering Weekly (nice acronym joke there!) as his professor pointed out, these opportunities only come once or maybe twise in a lifetime.Casey pursuing her political career felt a little false considering she has tired law and politics before and dismissed them so what is different now?
The watching through the windows is admittedly going to far but Bree is sending Katherine down a dangerous path by sacking her.The Lynette boob storyline was in part funny, I really liked her scenes with Tom, but with Carlos it felt sleazy and perhaps a little exaggerated (they weren't that big!).
The whole episode had a lovely family feel to it, especially with Kitty and Nora at the beginning freaking out (like in the season 1 days when they lived together), the family conference call, and of course the explosive family dinner.Storyline, the episode was less impressive, I liked that Kevin had doubt's and he and Scotty shared some sweet moments over their surrogacy woes, but I'm a little skeptical now that she's likely going to be their surrogate.
Though it was done for behind the scenes reasons, it works perfectly on screen and adds a sense of drama that even one of the core doctors could lose their jobs.As a side storyline, Callie got some acceptance from her father. This was a sweet storyline, if a little saccharine. I thought Arizona was refreshingly mature, seeing things from Hector's point of view and encouraging Callie to patch up her relationship with him. Also the bible verbal contest was pretty funny.

Desperate Housewives- 6x03 Never Judge A Lady By Her Lover
Not a very good third episode unfortunately, probably because there was too many storylines going on with each main housewife (minus Katherine) having their own mostly separate storyline. This meant that Bree's quite interesting and funny storyline was finished with very quickly into the episode and forgotten about by the end. Susan's storyline was completely silly and annoying, but I did like Lynette's and want to see where they go with this one in the next few episodes. Can't quite decide on the new family, they seem mostly likable and Angie and Danny seem to have a close relationship. However we know they are hiding something and for the sake of the show's mystery format, I want it to be something interesting and shocking. The worst bit about this episode was the return of John Rowland, a character who should've never returned post season 1. The producers must really like the actor to bring him back because as a character he is smarmy and one dimensional. Plus the fact that Gabby is still holding a torch for him is just stupid and spoils one of the few likable couples in the show.
Dollhouse- 2x09 Stop Loss
Quite a disappointing episode I thought. I was hoping to get more Victor screen time but we actually got very little in the only episode centred on him. The Echo is special spiel we keep getting is annoying me a lot and I found myself rolling my eyes at the end when she was in the attic, despite the attic reveal being quite cool. I'm also getting increasingly annoyed with the Victor/Sierra 'our love transcends all' farce. Its yet another thing I'm finding hard to suspend disbelief for, even if the pair can be cute at times.
Olivia Williams was brilliant at being an utter bitch in this episode and I loved it especially when she came back fighting after her drunken binge. Not sure why but I oddly find myself rooting for her rather than Echo et al, perhaps because Echo's 'specialness' as stated earlier.
Brothers and Sisters- 4x04 Last Tango in Pasadena
A fairly frivolous episode. The dancing bits with Giles Marini are a little tacky, even if the background behind it is a cross promotion with Dancing With the Stars. Although maybe its his uneven and weird French accent that's off-putting. (NB apparently he's actually French and used to live in France when he was younger. The accent must be one of those Americanised accents that they usually do with British accents. Its still uneven however)
I liked seeing Paige and Coop though, they have been away from the family fold for too long. Kitty and Robert had some lovely scenes, I really liked the fireworks at the end of their date. Sarah and Nora had some good moments together confronting each other about what the other needed to do as well as learning from their mistakes. Really not sure about Scotty and Kevin using their absent yet very close friend from season 1 as their surrogate. Seems strife with problems. It makes me laugh that up until only recently they are portraying Holly as a shrewd business woman, yet in this episode we find out she put all her money in one investment. Marked character change yet quite ironic. Sadly it probably means more storylines for her which we could do without.

Modern Family- 4x11 Moon Landing
A funny episode from the new hit show (aren't they all?!). Gloria's road rage storyline was funny and I liked the way in which they dealt with it; would've liked to see her drive into the giant cupcake at the end though. Cameron and Jay are a great comedic pairing and whilst that storyline wasn't the funniest, the ending with Jay 'splash landing' with a stranger certainly was. My favourite storyline was the Dunphry's. You could see the punchline coming from a mile away, but Claire's jealousy and longing for her old single life was nicely dealt with in the end, with her anger towards her family and their acceptance of her at dinner back into the family fold.
Grey's Anatomy- 6x03 I Always Feel Like Somebody's (Watching Me)
Another dramatic episode for the show with the looking Mercy West merger causing everyone to run around like headless chickens and stay at the hospital without sleep in order to keep their jobs. I must admit I didn't feel that bad for anyone until the end when people actually started to lose their jobs. This might be because there isn't too much danger of most of the cast getting fired so the fear everyone was feeling didn't really translate. The medical storylines were touching, especially with Arizona and Mark having to reattach a newborn baby's arm- very sad but happy when they actually manage to do it. Alex was very sweet with Izzie, getting her meds and a banana so she can carry on in surgery and Lexie was great at dealing with the schizophrenic.
Dollhouse- 2x08 Love Supreme
A good return for Alpha, he was at his usual crazy best and damn Alan Tudyk is looking good these days! However whilst I enjoyed his focused agenda, his obsession with Echo, as well as everyone else's was boring. As often happens with Dollhouse I couldn't feel much sympathy for any of the characters as the dolls turned ninja, mostly because few of them are likable. Plus especially with Paul, there's the little matter of Epitaph One, which means we know he's okay in the future, so there's no real reason to share Echo's tears at his 'death'. We got to see a little more of Victor and Sierra this week, it was enough to remind the audience what terrific actors they are and what a shame it is they aren't featured more. Adelle was a brilliant bitch here though, sacrificing Echo (who can take care of herself) to Alpha was one thing, but the poor schluppy client? Very cold.
Brothers and Sisters- 4x04 From France With Love

I was expecting this to be a slightly more frivolous episode than it was, with more tales from Sarah's time in France. Thankfully since those flashbacks were mostly weird and tacky we didn't get too much of them, though I loved the twist at the end with Sarah hiding the real reason she came home and also the Frenched title card- very cute.
The Kitty stuff was wonderful, managing to be both highly upsetting and very uplifting at the same time. Calista Flockhart is doing such a great job with this storyline.
I also really liked the Holly/Rebecca storyline, its unusual and welcomed to have Nora in the middle with the Harper women fought around her. The storyline worked though and the scene with the porn film was very funny. Justin also had a great storyline at college. His professor asking Justin to help Carter live a little was nice as was his motivational speech about Kitty's cancer and Justin's career, even though its a little obvious that Carter and Justin cancel each other out so they should help each other out.
Desperate Housewives- 6x02 Being Alive
A bit meh for me, they went over the same things a lot of the time and the neighbours were very quick to jump to suspicion about the Bolens and even if their was foul play involved with Julie (before the police had even got there!) Still Mrs McCluskey getting some loving was sweet (glad they've given her a proper storyline) and I liked that Bree chose to be with Karl even though Susan said she would never speak to a friend who slept with Karl. Shows Bree's deep unhappiness with Orson and also that she really has made a connection with Karl. Also Gaby's proving to be a great mum to Ana, I was doubtful at first of the storyline but if it continues like this, it was inspired.

Mini Reviews- January 31st
With lots of new TV shows starting I thought it was about time I start doing min-reviews of the shows I'm watching. Hopefully I'll get time to do all of them weekly but if not I'll try and do at least a few!
Desperate Housewives- 6x01 Nice is Different Than Good
A decent premiere episode from the sixth season of Housewives. The Mike/Susan storyline felt eternally silly to me, Susan is a real bitch for marrying Mike just two months after he dumps Katherine, though she does redeem herself at the wedding. Still I'm totally on Katherine's side and can't wait to see a little bit of crazy Katherine.
Bree's affair was so so, Gabby's wars with niece Ana were hilarious and quite sweet especially with the signing of the guardianship papers. Liked Lynette's storyline about not loving her twins, very interesting storyline and kept the silliness of this episode grounded. The new family led by former Soprano Drea Di Mateo were okay, but not enough was shown to really form an opinion of them. Liked the time jumping aspect as it kept the episode moving a long at a nice pace.
Brothers and Sisters- 4x01/02/03 The Road Ahead/ Breaking the News/ Almost Normal
The season started off fairly light with Justin and Rebecca's engagement party which was suitable ludarious for the Walkers. The second and third episodes were a lot more interesting and emotional with news of Kitty's cancer. The whole cast do a great job, especially in the third episode but Calista Flockhart, Rob Lowe and Sally Field are really bringing their A-game. I'm really looking forward to this storyline playing out over the season Kevin and Scotty are moving towards having a child, which is a great storyline for them but I hope they keep moving at a slow pace as they have been. Rob and Kitty were able to adopt very quickly and it felt rushed last season.
I love Justin at medical school; it gives him real direction and decent storylines. Everything at Ojai feels a little bit over the top- is business really conducted with so many machinations and underhand dealings as they are at Ojai?!
The three episodes really felt sibling-lite with Tommy gone completely, Ryan gone from two and Sarah making only brief appearances. Glad the latter has returned to the fold.
Greek- 3x11 I Know What You Did Last Semester
A great return from the students of Cyprus Rhodes, the show was on good form. Whilst the girls involvement with last years fire was quite ridiculous (what was up with Casey telling Cappie?! not very sisterly of her, considering they'd made a pact) but the rest of the storylines were good. I liked Evan and Rebecca's growing relationship with out it being sickly sweet like most other relationships. Cappie dealing with the loss of his brothers was realistic- though are they really gone? If so I'm sad, I liked Wade and Jeremy, Kappa Tau will be a worse of place with out them. Rusty was good as pledge educator but I must admit I was sad that he won the science award over Dale. Poor Dale- I hope they don't forget about him this chapter like they did the last. Also poor Ashleigh, breaking up with Fisher, though I would have preferred it to happen on screen in a more organic way rather than him cheating in her. Maybe we'll see a darker Ashleigh as a result. Liked Calvin and Grant dancing at the ball, though Grant was very dark after a small prank played by their brothers- he seems a bit psychotic!
Scrubs- 9x11 Our Dear Leaders
Great episode, which sadly could be one of the last aired- they shouldn't have brought Zach Braff back at all this season, proved to be a big mistake.
Turk was funny with his jealously over the superstar surgeon but he showed real growth when he took Denise's advice and volunteered as his assistant. Speaking off Denise and Drew whilst avoiding each other for most of the episode seemed to work some stuff out and by the end of the episode they are a lot more solid. Lucy was hilarious in her role of power as was Drew trying to stay away from them. All the med school students work very well together in terms of cast. I also loved Dr Cox in his nice mentor role, its rare to see and shows a new side of him.
Skins- 4x01 Thomas
A terrific opening episode. Thomas is easily my favourite character from this cast making the others seem like stupid, spoilt children. Merveille Lukeba does a great job as emotionally confused Thomas who has to bear the burden of taking care of his family as well as fitting in with his new friends at school. I was rooting for him and Andrea and I'm sad that he decided he loved Pandora at the end as they don't really seem to fit together as a couple any more. The others were unduly harsh on Thomas, they seem to have forgotten that Pandora had an on-going affair with Cook just last year, but Thomas got very little sympathy from that.
The opening sequence was amazing and I'm sure the impacts from that girls drug-fuelled death will continue to be felt for the rest of the series. This episode set the tone for a much darker fourth series which should be good.
