My Favourite Shows of the 2000’s

My Favourite Shows of the 2000’s

It’s been a great ten years for TV and for me especially as I have been watching a lot of it!!

These are my favourite shows of the last decade; they’re not necessarily the best but my favourite. Shows have to have started in 1999 at least to qualify and have shown most of their episodes since 2000.

This was such a difficult list to do especially as some shows I initially thought of (eg Sex and the City) had to be struck from the list due to my own criteria! Plus since 10 years is a long time, it’s easy to forget what TV was great at the beginning of it (which may explain at least one of my choices!)
Also the list is ranked but it is a lose ranking as it was difficult to do!

Honourable mentions: Grey’s Anatomy, Six Feet Under, Lost, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, My Wife and Kids, Grosse Pointe, Modern Family, America’s Next Top Model.

20. Big Brother- easily my most questionable choice and a bit of a wild card, but in its first few years I adored Big Brother. The original and perhaps best reality TV show, the first few series gave us some wonderfully entertainment and filled up those long summer nights.

19. Skins- gritty and realistic, the first series was really stellar and shows that the Brits can do excellent teen drama.

18. Chuck- I’m not really much for spy shows/films but I adore this show about a geek made spy. Its a great action-adventure show with a brilliant and eye-candy worthy cast!

17. Greek- fun and frivolous, this is an enjoyable show about college life. Some of the storylines may be a bit ridiculous but the humour is usually razor sharp.

16. Glee- a new show, but this show definitely has to get props for being like no other on TV. Even if the stories are sometimes questionable the musical interludes will always keep me coming back for more.

15. Ugly Betty- this is an endearing, yet funny and outrageous show. Its best to suspend disbelief with Ugly Betty sometimes but its so delightful to watch.

14. No Angels- This British show about 4 nurses was naughty and outrageous. I was late watching this show but have thoroughly enjoyed catching up repeatedly on DVD.

13. Rome- an elaborate costume drama with a lot of swearing and nudity. The story of two soldiers as well as some more famous names from history was beautifully told even if the show ended after just two seasons.

12. The Inbetweeners- a new but brilliant comedy less extreme than Skins but just as high in quality. The boys are brilliant actors and play teenage boys very well.

11. Scrubs- at its best this show was the perfect mix of humour and drama. This is a great show to dip in and out of and its always fun to watch.10. Gilmore Girls- fun and heart-warming, this highly enjoyable show is truly excellent. I discovered this show after it was finished but that didn’t diminish my enjoyment of it.

9. Desperate Housewives- ridiculous at times but mostly this show is a lot of frivolous fun with just the right amount of genuine heart felt drama.

8. Firefly- One of the shortest shows on the list but one of the greatest. An impressive show which had so much potential and was just finding its feet. Each character was so loveable and its sad that we’ll never get to see their exploits on TV again.

7. Veronica Mars- this sounds like it might be a bad show, but its actually one of the best written shows out there. Great cast and strong compelling story arcs.

6. Arrested Development- Scathingly funny comedy, this is probably the funniest show on my list. Terrific cast and brilliant writing. Hopefully we’ll see a movie in the next decade.

5. Brothers & Sisters- endearing and heart-warming, this show has a stellar cast and also a very funny side.

4. Dexter- this is a stunning show, which has produced one of the greatest anti-heroes there ever was. The story of Dexter Morgan and his killing nature is highly compelling to watch.

3. Entourage- This isn’t the funniest or best show on the list but it is one of my favourites. Great cast, brilliantly shot and packed full of great guest stars, this show is highly enjoyable and surprisingly addictive.

2. Angel- easily one of the best spin-offs made. This show may have been a bit off a slow starter but it produced some stellar hours of TV.

1. The Wire- the best show ever tag given to this show is well deserved. Wonderfully acted and written, the whole show was just a masterpiece.

Thanks for reading!! Happy New Year!!!!

My Favourite Christmas Movies and TV

My Favourite Christmas Movies

Elf- Saw this very recently and it was such a sweet movie that I couldn’t help but be melted by it. Will Ferrell is surprisingly wonderful in the lead role.

Home Alone- A fun Christmas classic, that can really make you feel all Christmassy inside.

The Muppets Christmas Carol- This really scared me the first few times I watched it (especially the Christmas future bits) but I love the Muppets and this is the only version of the Christmas I’ve ever seen and probably ever will, as I’m still a child at heart. Cute and loveable.

Miracle on 24th Street- (the newer version) This sweet and uplifting movie is a must- see Christmas film. Will help to re-affirm your belief in Santa Claus!!

My Favourite Christmas TV Episodes

Buffy the Vampire Slayer- Amends: The only Whedon Christmas episode but it’s a real gem. Its very dark with the arrival of the First but the endings really sweet.

The OC- The Best Christmakkuh ever: The original Christmakkuh episode and as the title says the best. I like the merging of the holidays which just makes it totally fun!!

Veronica Mars- An Echolls Family Christmas: The first full episode I watched of the show, the episode had a dark undertone to Christmas in Neptune.

Scrubs- My Own Personal Jesus: Very Christmas-affirming, its typical Scrubs which means its very funny but also very sweet.

Friends- The One with Phoebe’s Dad: Friends didn’t always do Christmas episode preferring to do Thanksgiving and this was their first and IMO their best. The two storylines are funny and Phoebe’s storyline is very sweet. I also love the present scene at the end of the episode!

Chuck- Chuck Vs The Santa Claus One: of my favourite episodes of Chuck. Its a very sweet and funny episode which unites all the shows characters. Sad ending though.

Ugly Betty- Lose the Boss: This isn’t technically a Christmas episode but with the Suarez family decorating the tree it feels like one. There are a lot of lessons about family here and cute scenes with Daniel and the Suarez’.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
